Our mission is to bring mental wellness awareness and support to children, youth, parents, educators, men and women icommunities across the world, creating trauma informed safe spaces that forge positive relationship, rewrite mental health narratives, dispel stigma, and encourage healthy mindset, habits and lifestyle.
We envision communities that move to action through collaborative efforts to actively engage in experiences that support love, kindness and healthy daily self-care habits; dispelling mental health stigma, and identifying healthier ways of thinking, acting and being mentally and physically well.

Why Mental Wellness?
Mental wellness became a subject of immediate concern in my life when my mother experienced a mental health challenge that shook the very foundation of our family structure. The challenge, conversations, disbelief, anger, tears, fears, love and surprises seem to be a never ending roller coaster of frightening twists and turns, steep ups and extended downs.
Some of us understood her challenges, while others did not. I remember many moments of disbelief and even more days of 24/7 prayer. I remember family disagreements that led to siblings not speaking to each other or our mother. I further recall the day I had to sign my mother up for treatment and how I struggled to believe the reality of what was actually happening. The reality of her episodic grandiose behaviors had now immensely impacted her freedom. But with a little grace, understanding and self-checks we were able to make it through her first episode. I happened to be at the end of my master's degree program in Counseling Psychology,Studying the DSM IV when it all unfolded.
Never would I have imagined a day where I had to talk my mother, a devout Christian woman with 30 years of helping others as a registered nurse, into getting treatment for something she would not come to terms with. The greatest moment that happened in it all was our ability to communicate and an opportunity for me to validate her thoughts and feelings. I remember the look on her face that very day. It was a sigh of relief that someone understood her. Although it happened over 20 years ago it still saddens my heart and brings me to tears to think of what my mother struggled with internally and how she kept it to herself for so many years.
This experience further endeared me to understanding mental illness, health and wellness and how I can help my family and others understand they are not alone, there is help and how to access help.
It also prompted me to evaluate and grow my own mental wellness practices. As well as those of organizations that serve youth and their families.
The Growth Center I, Inc. was born from a passion to help others understand mental health, wellness and illness. Understanding that mental health IS health, changes perceptions and connects ALL involved to the proper resources to grow and live a happy healthy life. My life experiences and that of many of my loved ones, students and acquaintances have also inspired the movement to dispel the myth on various levels.
With more than 25 years of engaging youth, young adults, college students, unhoused, families, educators and mental health professionals in practices that manage mental health, my research and experiences support the TGC mission to educate individuals and communities across the world starting in the greater Sacramento area.
As an educator, I have observed many experiences of those who suffer in silence due to stigma, lack of timely help, socioeconomic barriers, financial insecurities, healthcare disparities, awareness and education.
Covid increased already challenging circumstances in school cases of depression, anxiety and stress-related mental health challenges. Our communities, schools and homes changed forever. The rising levels of anxiety, depression and stress left many children struggling to return to the life they knew before COVID within a school setting and at home.
Teachers and parents also struggled to find a sense of normalcy. Silent cries became a visible crisis at a lightning speed, demanding support that could not adequately be met by schools, health care providers and community support agencies' systemic approach to addressing mental health crises. Mental health providers were and still are impacted by the increase so much so that it is taking months for many to receive initial face to face treatment. BIPOC populations were already at a disadvantage. The increase in healthcare disparities, traumas and juvenile incarceration only deepened and widened the crisis in our community.
The Growth Center supports trauma informed approaches, coping support systems, self -advocacy, self-preservation and self discipline.
We are passionate about the wellness of our communities and growth of everyone within our villages, including unhoused, veterans, parents, grandparents, teachers, youth, families, schools and mental wellness support providers.

The Mental Health Education Group is a powerful and transformative space designed to meet young people where they are—emotionally, developmentally, and culturally. Tailored to the unique mental health needs of youth across the Greater Sacramento area, this group helps participants build a foundational understanding of mental health, self-love, and emotional resilience in a way that’s real, relatable, and empowering.
Through guided discussions, interactive activities, and storytelling, youth are invited into a process of self-discovery and healing on their own terms. They learn how to recognize signs of mental and emotional distress, understand the value of emotional wellness, and identify what healthy support and relationships should look like in their lives.
Participants explore:
This group isn’t about labels—it’s about liberation. It’s about giving young people tools to understand themselves, reduce stigma, and walk a path toward healing with dignity and support. Many youth have described this group as life-changing, with participants reporting improved confidence, clarity, and a renewed sense of hope.
Our Mental Health Education Group creates a culturally safe, affirming environment where every voice is heard, every story matters, and every step forward is celebrated.
Our Mindful Decisions Small Group is a weekly healing circle that creates a safe, empowering space for youth and young adults ages 12–26 to explore emotional wellness, build healthy decision-making skills, and connect with positive peers and trusted mentors.
Each session gently incorporates substance use prevention and suicide prevention, helping youth understand the deep connection between emotional regulation and long-term well-being. We take intentional time to explore the consequences of unaddressed emotional pain, isolation, and poor coping strategies—while offering healthy alternatives that build confidence, resilience, and hope.
Through engaging discussion, mindfulness practices, creative expression, and personal reflection, participants learn how to navigate stress, anxiety, and conflict with tools that support mental clarity and self-control. Sessions also feature guest speakers with lived experiences, who share powerful, real-life stories of overcoming mental health and substance use challenges—offering both inspiration and connection.
By combining evidence-based strategies with culturally responsive support, Mindful Decisions helps young people reclaim their voice, strengthen their self-worth, and stay connected to life-affirming choices.
Our 1 & 3 day Mental Wellness Retreats are transformative experiences intentionally designed to offer young people a pause from daily pressures and a safe space to reflect, recharge, and reconnect. Held in calming, nature-based or wellness-focused environments, these retreats immerse participants in a trauma-informed, healing-centered setting where emotional safety and self-discovery take center stage.
Youth are guided through activities like mindfulness practices, yoga, expressive arts, journaling, and psychoeducational workshops that explore identity, emotional regulation, and healthy coping strategies.
These retreats allow young people to explore their inner world in a supportive, judgment-free space while cultivating community and mutual support. Whether for one day or an extended weekend, participants walk away with a deeper understanding of themselves, strengthened emotional resilience, and tools to support their mental wellness journey beyond the retreat.
Our Women & Girls Summit is a powerful, heart-centered gathering that center the emotional and psychological needs of women and girls from all backgrounds. These summits are more than just events—they are intentional healing spaces where stories are shared, identities are affirmed, and collective strength is built.
Each summit is curated to include engaging keynote speakers, interactive wellness workshops, creative healing modalities (such as poetry, dance, or visual art), and real conversations about trauma, self-worth, mental health stigma, and societal pressures. Participants leave with access to culturally responsive resources, strengthened self-advocacy skills, and a renewed sense of empowerment. Whether someone is navigating their healing journey or simply seeking connection and inspiration, these summits offer a community of support, sisterhood, and resilience. They are especially impactful for girls and women who have never had the opportunity to openly explore mental health in a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment.
Our Mental Wellness Pop-Up Family Events are vibrant, community-rooted experiences designed to bring families together around joy, healing, and mental health awareness. These events take place in neighborhoods and public spaces where families live, work, and play—breaking down barriers to access and removing stigma around mental health conversations.
Each pop-up features music, games, food, art-making, and interactive wellness booths, alongside access to local mental health providers, peer support networks, and culturally grounded resources. Families can participate in everything from mini mindfulness workshops and parent-child activities to storytelling sessions and mental health check-ins—all in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
These events foster open dialogue among generations, promote early intervention, and equip parents and youth with tools for emotional wellness. By meeting the community where they are, we spark healing, connection, and awareness in ways that are joyful, empowering, and deeply needed.
